I didn't know jumble sales still existed.

I used to go to loads as a kid with my Nan and Aunt. I loved it but once there was a huge fight between two women, with others trying to get in between them to separate them I remembered being really scared that day.

I helped MIL set up for her Church one yesterday, grabbed 3 X large kilner jars, a cute bunny jelly mold and a brand new cat scratching post all for the princely sum of £4 - they wouldn't take more.

I took a load of our [STRIKE]Junk[/STRIKE] pre loved items down so double win, clear out and saved a few quid on stuff I wanted to buy anyway - had cat post in my @mazon basket for £14.99

Hello - This is my big moneysaving "thing"
There is a monthly event run by my favourite charity about three miles from where we live. They sell clothes all 50p a garment. Last week I had two good jackets and two summer frocks all in nearly new condition.
They also sell books and household items. It has been a Godsend to us. I love being a "second hand Rose" jac.xx

Haven't seen a jumble sale for years, used to love going to them. As a teenager, I was a punk and it was a great way to get clothes to modify, as well as vintage stuff.

On a Saturday morning, you'd often find my friends and I queuing up with the old ladies waiting for the doors to open.

As I child in the 1970s and early 80s, I was actively discouraged from going t jumble sakes by my mum, who worked her fingers to the bone to dress us all from Marks.

Aside from who profits, I don't see a huge difference between jumble sales, car boot sales, second hand shops and chazzers to be honest. Mum was converted a while ago; my sister more recently. She calls it "the special place". :D

I was a total addict "backalong" as they say round here for times past - and I still am! And for me it's kind of work as well, as I make a little bit of a living from finding & selling on vintage treasures. This afternoon I spent a total of £5, which included the entrance fee for two, and came home clutching 4 x silk scarves, two sweetly-embroidered tablecloths complete with 4 napkins apiece, a tweed skirt, two tiny lace parasols (ornaments rather than real ones; but real Madeira lace if I'm any judge) a stove-top coffee pot, an outrageous but hilarious knitted waistcoat with musical markings & piano keys, and a pretty old Viyella blouse. Oh, and two old floral folding garden chairs, which we'll probably use before selling on at the summer "events". Those - the ones with metal frames & wooden arms - are money well-spent; they're virtually indestructable! Where more moderne ones only seem to last a year or two.

I missed out on a few enviable goodies, but I'm out of practice & that's quite enough for one afternoon!

My Mum and I refer to charity shop stuff as coming from 'the usual boutique' 😄

I shall be sure to let you know when my local church holds the next one. The usual OS suspects from our SE London meets are regulars and we often have tea at mine afterwards.

Probably next January now, as the new vicar prefers to organise a flower festival in summer rather than another summer jumble sale.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
