Accepted a job, but Universal Credit still want me to look for work.

  • I can understand why the rule is there, if it wasn't as always people would take advantage.

You would have those that have found a job that starts in 8 weeks time, they stop looking for work and still get paid all that time, then oh dear the job falls through at the last minute.

I can see why you think the rule is stupid as you come across as honest and want to do the right thing by not wasting anyone's time, unfortunately not everyone is like you.

    Thanks :)

    and too everyone else also.
I should get my formal confirmation next week, as the school is closing this week for Easter and i start immediatley after. I think Ill sign off then. Well I'm going to try and get my claim closed. The job coach said I couldn't because I haven't officially started work. But I swear there is a choice whether I want to continue my claim or not, so Ill need to look into this.

I'm too bothered about the sake of 2 weeks JSA, if it means taking a break off indeed.co.uk and that terrible place called the Job centre, I'll be happy to go without 144 pound.

When I signed-off JSA back in March 2015, i just could not believe how hard they now make it.

In the past, you just phoned-up and gave them your details and that was that, your claim was closed.

Now, they want to know the name and address of the employer so they can check that you really do have a job.
    It really winds me up.

Anyway, good luck with your new job and feel free to ignore any further communications from the DWP once you have started.

You can sign off by just saying you no longer wish to claim (and signing to confirm that) you don't have to say you are starting work on a certain date and who for

When do you get your first pay from your new job? You can't want to sign off now, wait 2 weeks for the job to start only to find out there's another few weeks before payday and not claiming JSA may affect receiving other benefit like the council tax or housing in that period.

When I signed off a few years ago from JSA it was the same, I had to wait 6 weeks for pre-employment checks to finish but keep jumping through the hoops to keep my head above water.
