Emptying coffee grounds out of espresso machine

First world problem I know but we got a new espresso machine today and you put the coffee in the little round filter which is really quite fiddly to empty . I don't want to scrape the used coffee out of it and damage the seal and I don't want to risk getting used coffee all over or dropping the filter in the bin .
So how do people empty it without mess or fuss ?

No need to scrape the portafilter basket, simply run it under the cold tap - keeps it clean ready for the next shot as well.0

Put the used coffee grounds around plants, slugs and snails hate it. We do this at work with the used grounds, we put it outside with some bags and tell customers to help themselves.0

Great idea about the slugs , they have decimated a few of my plants so I'll be trying this out.0

You asked how to empty the portafilter not what to do with the waste grounds.
Keep on scraping and making a mess!0 -
Surely the used grounds will just flush away down the sink - I have heard people claim coffee can block a sink but have never found this to be the case0

Do what the 'baristas' do in the coffee shops, and have a handy container below the machine on which to invert the filter and bang it noisily to empty (most of) the grounds
(...usually just at the point when I'm trying to order, so that either I can't make myself heard, or can't hear what the other barista is saying to me....)0
