The 4 icons at the bottom of my opening screen on my ipad are photos, mail, Safari and Facebook. The Facebook icon is now black instead of how it was, below it it says installing....... It has been like this for a couple of hours and hasn't installed anything as yet.
Ive logged into Facebook via Google and one of my Facebook friends said she has been hacked. Do you think that could have anything to do with my problem?
Any suggestions as to what I could do next?
Thanks

Unlikely you've been hacked. Turn the power off completely to the ipad by holding the power button until it says slide to power off, once off turn it back on again. Hopefully that will clear it.0

Thanks Chrisw, I did as you suggested, the black icon is now gone but there is no Facebook icon at all on this line.
How do I restore one please.0 -
Go to the App Store and re download the Facebook app. It should install properly this time.0

Thanks Chris, will do that tomorrow. Don't know why all that happened today? I've not had hassle like that with my I pad before and I've had it 2 years now.
Thanks for your help.0 -

Computers are insanely complex things. I mean staggeringly so. If you ever stopped and thought 'how does this actually work', and then found out, you'd be blown away, there's layer upon layer upon layer of innovation and abstraction and what the user sees is so staggeringly simplified, that there are tens or hundreds of thousands of ways things can go wrong just through normal use. We've mitigated many of them in almost all cases, but things occasionally going awry is inevitable.
In short, don't worry too much about it0 -
All back to how it was now. Thanks for all the help.
Paddyrg, yes I can well imagine the complexities of how and why the Internet and computers work. I'm of the generation that grew up without any of this technology. I can just remember my grandparents who listened to the radio on an old brown box which you tweeted with a knob at the front to get the best reception. It squeezed and crackled until you achieved optimum signal. Then we waited for the theme tune to the Archers serial to come on. I had the pegged rug rolled up ready for 60 seconds of dancing on the lino floor n my socks. Such nostalgic days which I'm so glad I experienced. It makes me marvel at the pace of change in my lifetime.
