Dual fuel discounts but we have no gas!!
I am fed up with adverts for dual fuel discounts.
I live in a village with no gas supply. I cannot therefore get a dual fuel discount, even though I use a higher amount of electricity as a consequence. I have electric heating / cooking / water - everything.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to encourage suppliers to give discounts to higher electiricty users like me, who cannot have dual fuel?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Whilst I understand the point you are making, the dual fuel discounts are not large; and in many cases it is cheaper to have separate suppliers for gas and electricity.
Often it is simply a marketing tool to persuade consumers that they are getting a good deal. There is little point in getting a dual fuel discount of, say, £20pa when going to separate suppliers might save you £50.
If your suggestion was adopted, how would Utility companies give this discount? All consumption over, say, 10,000kWh pa will be 20% less?
Hardly encourage consumers to be economical!
In fact many States in the USA have exactly the opposite policy. Above 1,000kWh a month you pay a 20% extra premium. (many homes have Electricity for heating and Aircon)
Being slightly facetious you could argue that consumers who use a lot of electricity have the ability to take advantage of Economy 7 tariffs, which is a form of discount.0 -
with N power extra discount is £60 pa for dual fuel!0

So what do you suggest should happen?
Give the discount to all who only have electricity?
What if gas was available, but I chose to not have gas installed - do I get the discount?
What if I have Oil, calor gas or solid fuel heating - do I get the discount?
If I only have Electricity from NPower and get my Gas from another company do I get the discount?
How do NPower decide if I am eligble? carry out an inspection of every claimant's house?
What is to stop you getting oil/solid fuel/calor gas heating?0
