Aldi faulty goods return

I bought two sandwich toasters from Aldi last year (August).
I went to use one and it tripped the electrics, the other one worked fine and my child took it to uni.
I went to the Aldi store to return it and they asked for the receipt. I thought I had it but couldn't find it so was told I needed proof of purchase.
I am in the middle of decluttering and have found the sandwich toaster still in the box. Having checked I can see my bank statement shows an amount of £75 for shopping at Aldi. Is it worth returning it now and would my bank statement be sufficient proof of purchase? I'm pretty sure it's an Aldi own brand toaster.
Having looked at previous posts about Aldi it appears they try to wriggle out of refunding as much as possible. Would I be entitled to a full refund of the item or just partial as it is now more than 6 months old?

You may not be entitled to any refund as its now past 6 months.
The receipt could help them look up the transaction, possibly, but as I imagine it's with other items it's harder to show that is the toaster purchase.
Legally they could ask you to get a report showing it was inherently faulty at the time of purchase.
Then if you get this proof they could replace, repair or refund. Refund could be partial to take into account 6 months use.0
