Hi
An MOT check comes up with a vehicle that has road tax but MOT listed as "no details are held by DVLA"
Anyone know what might this mean?
Ta.

    Northern Irish MOT.

Is it on an I/J/Z xxx9999 plate?

Car is less than 3 years old.

    Databases are not perfect.

The MOT system is far from problem free and it could also be a clerical error wou the wrong Reg No being used by the MOT tester.

My Berlingo was put down as a diesel for the previous four MOTs for example, previous owner never spotted it. The previous MOT Tester also called it a "Berligo"

You can tax a car without an MOT or Insurance apparently.

I know for a fact you can Tax a car without Insurance as I did it with the Picanto, I did the Insurance online a few minutes afterwards. So there is no way the car was showing as Insured on MiD.

MOT's always checked, but insurance hasn't been checked when buying tax - online or in a PO - since late 2013.

The only exception to that is NI, where the insurance is still needed.

It is an old S reg van.
I thought the MOT must be valid when the tax starts. (DVLA website)

An NI plate doesn't mean it is NI reg, and a GB plate doesn't mean it isn't NI reg.

    Yep, it does.

If it comes up as green for MOT on https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ but comes up as a blank on https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history then it HAS an MOT, but the history's not coming up - it might be because of a plate change, it might be because it's on an NI MOT (which is perfectly OK).
