HELP! Scratch on courtesy car!

So my car was involved in an accident and was written off so i was provided with a hire car from europcar with my insurance company. I was first given a corsa for a week which was fine however they called telling me the vehicle need to be changed over so yesterday (17th) they came to change the vehicle for a 65 reg fiat 500; however the vehicle i was given made a rattling sound so i called them 20 minutes after the drop off for another change over.

Today the new vehicle was changed over for a 14 reg fiat 500 but when he was inspecting the 65 reg car he noticed a scratch on the passenger side which wasn't stated in the documentation (me being naive and this being my first claim i didn't inspect the car before it was dropped off as i thought everything would be fine) but i know 100% the damage wasn't done by me as i'd only driven the car from the drop off point to my parking spot at my building..

The man who dropped off the vehicle took down that i said the vehicle was in that condition when dropped off and asked me to sign it but now i'm worried incase i get charged a hefty fine for something i have not done, anything i can do about this?

Whatever happens you won't be getting fined!

The worst case here is that you have to pay the excess you agreed when taking the car for any damage done whilst you were in charge of the car.

Whatever it is, put it in writing....
  • that will be equally as bad because my excess is £400 in total when the young drivers excess is added
  • Have done so when the car was collected

this is why i never take a curtosy car unless it has full damage waiver.

They will bulk up the charges so they get all your excess. It's not just the repair cost they'll bill you for but the "time out of service" at a daily rate.

Then they wont even repair the car, keep the ding on it and rent it out for the next person a few days later. If the other driver does not notice the ding when taking it out they may accuse them of damaging the car as well on return and fleece them.

When I had my car repaired by albany assistance I dropped my car off and had my bike in the folded down rear seats and cyclked back. I then cycled back to collect the car.

They were !!!!ed when I didnt take the custosy car cos that's how they make their money. I told them I didn't want a curtosy car but the garage had the curtosy car washed and ready for me to take on arrival. Nice clean <2 year old car, they tried to entice me to change my mind. I said no and you can tell from the guys face that he was !!!!ed as they are probably getting fleeced by the claims handlers and forced to make £50 profit from the job (if no cars were hired).

I learnt my lesson, when dealing with non fault claims, always deal directly with 3rd party insurer and get your repair down at the car makers garage.

    +1 on that.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Did you get an option to purchase insurance on it? I pay £75 and it insures against minor paint work, tyres, windows and such. Only had one twice but paid it both times, never needed to use it though just rather spend the money and have peace of mind!
  • All my insurer said was that i shouldnt worry as the car will be insured under them for the 21 days of hire
