BT Extension cable, 6 core or 4 core?

I am looking to re-locate a telephone using a simple BT extension cable. I notice on ebay that there seems to be two types of cable. Some are described as "fully wired" or "6 core". The other type appear to be 4 core.
There are only a couple of pounds difference between the two types but I am wondering what is the difference between the two. What does a 6 core extension do that the 4 core wont? Is it something that the user needs to take into consideration.

If you have a 6 core cable there will be 3 and arguably 4 wires you don't need to use in a home setup. With 4 core there will be 1 or arguably 2 wires unused.
The extension needs a single pair for the voice and there is a ringwire which is really not needed for modern phones and can mess up ADSL by introducing RF interference.
Look for cable that meets CW1308 specs.0 -
You don't need the exta wires but if there's little difference then get the more wires the better. In the future you might want to use the same cable for another purpose.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

For all domestic internal phone wiring, you only need the four core cable. If ever you look at any of the phone line extension kits available from the big DIY stores...they're all based on four core.0
