28" TV for £99.99
Comments

They're worth £99 easily IMO.
A 28" 4:3 TV is equivalent to a 24" widescreen if you run it in letterbox mode -- try getting a 24" widescreen TV for £99!! And if you're watching analogue signals only it's widescreen that's a waste of time quite honestly, because analogue is 4:3 and if you watch it on a widescreen TV you either end up with large portions of the screen black or watching in a horrible distorted stretchyvision (which is exactly the way 75% of other people's W/S TVs seem to be set up in my experience, total waste of time and money).
This is a great find

As a child TV was easy, there were 4 channels, you had a 21-25" 4:3 telly, teletext was great, and you generally saw most programs at the right size without any problems. The tv picture was good, if it was fuzzy you played with the aerial, cables and tuning until it was right.
I now have 32" Toshiba widescreen and I am truly fed up with widescreen. The auto size is constanlty shrinking or expanding the image depending on the program, then the adverts and back again. NTL picture isn't great, loads of blocky looking bits on big banks of colour, especially skin tones and fast moving pictures.
Digital TV is another step backwards in my opinion, everyone I have seen with freeview experiences locking up and pixelating ! And this is the future ? For all its faults, analog is actually quite good for the vast majority of uses.
This telly sounds like a great deal for most people - and if I could be bothered I might have got one as a second tv for the conservatory to replace the 21" that is there now.0 -
I agree partly with that, why complicate things with widescreen? Having three aspect ratios (as many films and some programs are broadcast in cinematic widescreen) doesn't benefit either those with widescreen TVs or those without. 4:3 was the original aspect ratio as this is the aspect ratio of human eyesight, so sensibly it was also used for TVs. I can't see any benefit to having a differently proportioned TV.
I know I'll still be checking ofr these in my local Lidl tomorrow.0 -

I have the same tv (100mhz)did you know there is a button (size) that you can make it stay on widescreen to stop the auto size changing.:)Jesus said to him, "I am the way.The truth, and the life."

One Channel (BBC) no colour distortion to worry about and on the model we had, when there was nothing good on, you flicked the switch and the radio came on instead (Good old 'light' program). Ekco was the brand. (Made by E.K. Cole & Sons from Southend, Essex.)
Today I am still on analogue and have a 28 " 4x3 Sony and am told that my video will become defunct in about Five years.
Progress I suppose.
And on the subject of religion .......these days, what with Big Bro, I'm a celeb, Etc ...........Thank Christ for the off switch.

It looks identical to one I bought in Dec 2003. WELLTECH "branded"
I paid £129 but I think mine has extra features since it doesn't mention in the specification the reason I decided to buy it.
Mine has TWO TUNERS !
WHY ? Because it's got Picture in Picture.
Can watch 1 channel whilst monitoring another for a program to start/end etc..(check on the CCTV camera who is at the front door when the door bell rings) - PIP window - 4 different sizes possible in 4 different positions
SWAP button reverses live screen to PIP and vice-versa.
Also got PIP SCAN - 12 yes TWELVE little PIP windows appear across the bottom and displays a second or two and then "freeze frames" each of all the channels the TV is tuned to.
Often saves getting out the TV times to see what's actually on at any instance and you don't have to stop watching the program that on.
BEST TV I'VE EVER PURCHASED !
OH and for the WIDESCREEN BRIGADE.... my TV does it - just press a button on the remote....
oh, and did I mention the virtual dolby surround sound, multipage memory fasttext , 5 preset picture settings, 5 graphic-equalizer sound presets, 4 (YES FOUR) AV connections - 3 scarts & SVHS input, headphone socket and a child lock.
Oh, and the child lock? It can be configured PER CHANNEL !
Obviously I was ripped off at £129 !There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

16:9 is (approximately) the aspect ration of human eyesight, not 4:3. That was one of the reasons for the widescreen changeover in the first place. I'm personally pro-widescreen, but accept that it isn't the be-all and end-all.
> I have the same tv (100mhz)did you know there is a button (size) that you can make it stay on widescreen to stop the auto size changing.
And that's exactly what you *don't* want!!!
If you have a widescreen TV and want to view a 4:3 picture, you are best off watching in 4:3 with the black bars on the sides (pillarbox). Otherwise you're distorting the image. 14:9 can be a good compromise, since this fills most of the screen and doesn't alter the aspect ratio.
As for this TV, it has a 3-year guarantee. For £100, what more do you want -- that guarantee is worth a good £20 on its own.
Pity this looks like a NI-only promotion. Lidl seem to have far more of a presence in NI than the mainland -- their ads are all over UTV (I watch UTV instead of my ITV region out of principle -- UTV is one of the few decent old-style ITV stations left, with in-vision continuity etc, and isn't in the pockets of Charles Allen, so they get my vote).0 -
