Is Stanmore parking best option for South Kensington?

Slight change of our plans, we are now going to London on day trip down M1 by car on a weekday and want to visit Science and Natural History museums near South Kensington tube station and then just do a open top bus tour and back again.

Is Stanmore station the best option for parking for this route above or is there a nearer option to save us time on the train/tubes and travel in general?

    It's all about compromise.

Stanmore is at the outer edge of the tube network, hence parking is easier but the train ride is longer.

At the other extreme, obviously South Kensington tube station is ideal for the museums but parking is extremely difficult.

Have a look at TfL's list of tube car parks.

Thanks, any experience of North Ealing? Compromise between time and parking plus on correct route.

North Ealing has a small car park, but may be full with season ticket holders etc.. It's also a tough drive on weekday if coming from The North, involving the North Circular road. Personally I would park at the first, large, TFL car park that I would naturally encounter on the drive. Once you are on the Tube, it's pretty fast to anywhere, and a lot better than sitting in traffic.

It would be approx 40 mins from Stanmore to South Kensington with one change at Green park onto the Piccadilly line. On a Sunday a lot of parking restrictions are lifted and we have gone from8.30am and parked on a road opposite the Natural History Museum. The parking is limited and you have to be careful as different parts of the same road have different restrictions. You obviously have no congestion charge at weekends.

Two museums and a bus tour is a lot to do in one day with a 4 year old. If you wanted to look at somewhere to stay near Stanmore, you could look at the Premier Inn at Bricket wood /St Albans as for e.g £39 per family room for Mon 11/4 or Thur 14/4 and 15 minute approx drive to Stanmore tube. We stayed there when at a party and it is an old mill setting with with ducks and nice children's playground.

Anyone any experience of Arnos Grove Station parking? 300+ spaces plus on direct Piccadilly line to South Kensington.

Another option is to go straight down the M1 and park at Brent Cross shopping centre (free), walk to Brent Cross tube station (Northern Line).
