2for1 London Zoo Train Ticket

I am trying to take advantage of the 2for1 to London Zoo by National Rail. I have already printed the voucher.
I live in London and already have Zone 1 on my Oyster which i know is not acceptable.
I would like to know, what is the cheapest acceptable ticket i can get? It will be for a Saturday. Will Charing Cross to Waterloo East ticket be acceptable and does it have to be to Euston as that is the closest rail stop? And is it okay to buy just a single ticket?
Thanks in advance

Just make sure you buy it from a 'real' train station, not an Underground station.0 -

It's ok to buy a 'single' (as opposed to a 'return' ) but you need two of them - one for each of the people taking advantage of the offer
Okay, i didn't realize that. So two single tickets then. Is my example the cheapest option?0 -
I believe any National Rail ticket is accepted, I've used Liverpool Lime Street to Liverpool Central before, cost £1.80, purchased at Liverpool Street station0

We have used many of these 2for1 offers. Only once (Tower Bridge) did they want to see the train ticket.....0

Just some feedback incase anyone else finds this useful.
I tried to buy a ticket from Waterloo to Charing Cross. The guy asked me why I was buying such a ticket from my current location. So i explained to him it was for 2for1 deal. He told me they've been warned to stop selling zone 1 only tickets. And had to buy zone 2 to London. So gave me tickets from Greenwich to London Terminals. They were £3.30 each. Not sure if this was true but wasn't worth the risk with the amount being saved. Also they did check the tickets when using them.0 -

That's more likely to be an ill trained and/or geographically challenged ticket clerk at the attraction rather than actually being valid.0
