Washing hair in the bath - how did people manage in the olden days?

  • We always used the sink - I think most people did in the "olden days". One lot of water to wet it, then shampoo over the sink, first rinse in that water, change water and rinse again as necessary.

We didn't wash our hair in the bath. Too soapy if it was a soft water area, too scummy if it was hard water

I've seen folk washing their hair in the Ganges without problems!

Yuk! I was watching a tv programme the other day that featured that - and all those bodies burnt nearby etc etc.

I lived in accommodation attached to work and had a bathroom with only a bath. Wilkos used to stock a more sturdy version of the rubber hose get up. I think it was this one http://www.wilko.com/shower-accessories/wilko-bathshower-mixer-set/invt/0343562

It fitted onto the taps very well, I think mine had a plastic hose. Comes with a rail so you can attach to the wall which makes it much easier to use.

    Hope this helps

In the bath, if you wash it first when you get in, the water hasnt really had time to get dirty anyway, then you can wrap your head in a towel and have your bath without your wet head getting cold. put your bubbly stuff in after so you can still rinse the soap out in plain water.
  • Before the internet, we lived like moles, had rickets and never washed our hair!

Just managed to do it with the jug :) It wasn't as bad as I thought, apart from splashing the floor quite a bit. I don't know how people manage in a sink. I'd end up with water everywhere.

Hence I used a mug and not a jug when having to use a sink.

Yep....apparently I'm one that splashes water everywhere if I'm not careful....:rotfl:
  • Another sink job.

Fill bowl with clean water and place to side of sink.
Fill sink with water dunk head and shampoo and then dunk.
Pull plug out and either use a cup or jug of water from bowl to rinse clear. Job done.

I always wash my hair in the basin as I don't like getting water on my face which is what would happen in the shower. When I have a shower I always adjust it so that the water doesn't touch my face.
I have also washed it when I've been having a bath without any problems.

I don't like that either, try standing with your back to the shower, then try to just put the back of your head under the spray. Then try to just brush the spray backwards. Hope that makes sense.

This is how I used to do it before I resorted to the sink.
