Hello everyone. I hope this is in the correct section.
My mum downsized from 3bed semi to 2bed rented flat 2years ago
Gifted the proceeds of the house betwedn kids and her self. My mum has had parkinsons for around 18 years.
Upto about 14 months ago she was still farly able and stll with it. My sister was down as being her carer for the past few years. My sister was diagonosed with terminal cancer around 16 months ago and looks like the life expenctancy is around 18 months to2 years.
So my mum started having carers visit. Mum has now had to into a nursing home after doing the finincial assessment the council say that she is a self funder due to the sale of her house and knowing that she has had parkinsons for several years there should have been an expectation that her condition would increase and care needs would increase.
My mum has a pension but this falls very short of cost needed to cover the nursing home.
My mum has very little savings and pretty much zero assetts. Im trying to sort out the mess and find out what mum spent on the flat they rented as i know she paid for a shower and a ramp to be put in to help her etc but getting details from my sister wont happen as she is in the final stages and on morphine.
Any advice would be welcome
All the best

What are the sums of money involved? Is mum in a care home or nursing home? it does make a difference.0

Are the kids that got her money not willing to help out?
Is she receiving housing benefit, and if so, was the capital declared at the time of application?0 -
Hello mum sold her house for 85k less fees etc so i think she ended up with around 75k gifted 19k to each kid and spent some on her flat new shower and access ramp furniture etc. Also paid for her own carer when she began to need one. No housing benefit as she paid the rent from her pension.0
