EU Working Time Directive Opt Out

Aaargh
I have just heard that europe are wanting to scrap Britain's opt out for the working time directive so you'll only be able work 48 hours a week.
It should be our own decision if we want to work over 48 hours. I choose to work over 48 hours a week to earn money to put into my pension so that i'll have some money 40 years down the line.
Maybe i should just live for the moment

We're been debating this for a few weeks at home. I live in farming country and the general agreement is if the cows need feeding and you're out of your hours what are you supposed to do? I know it's an average over the year but this kind of lifestyle doesn't always work according to the clock. The other thing is hubby is a lorry driver and they are already heavily legislated as regards to driving time and hours worked but this is going to leave most of them with chunks of time at the end of the year that they can't work. I'm all for it being optional for people to work just the 48 hours if they choose and bosses shouldn't be able to force people to but surely it's a breach of human rights to ban people from working if they choose to? I've already heard of one emplaoyer who has been looking into employing drivers on short term contracts so they can replace them when they're working hours are used up0
