Walk down there and give it a go,if not you'll have to go to the HSBC one further away.

An easier option is to ask HSBC to supply you with a Chip & Signature Card. No need to worry about PINs and as for using the same PIN for more than one card, here's the card peoples advice:

Don’t use the same PIN for every card.

Isn't this one of the cards where you cannot change the PIN?

Chip & Signature cards are ONLY issued to people who have a disability where they are unable to use Chip & Pin. You don't have the option that you can have one just because you don't like using a pin!

Will the card company give you a Chip & Signature card based on trust if you tell them you have a disability? Probably yes. Is it right to do it? Probably not.

    WRONG!

Ask yourself this who decides if YOU can take care of YOUR PIN. You the user or the Card Issuer?

Card Issuers would have you believe you have to be disabled but this is wrong. Advice is if you have difficulty using a PIN contact your card issuer. Ask APACS.

I should know. I'm not disabled and all the cards I have bearing the MasterCard or Visa logo (Debit and Credit) are Chip & Signature.

    My reasons are:

I can't comply with best advice on PIN security, i.e. I won't use the same PIN for more than one purpose, which includes my burglar alarm. I've asked card issuers if they are willing to put it in writing that it's OK to use the same PIN for more than one card or appliance. None of them will.

I honestly can't remember seldom used numbers and even when I do I sometimes enter them in the incorrect order.

I'm not getting any younger. I feel safer signing.

I am never tempted to use a credit card at an ATM machine, or put a credit card into an ATM in error.

If I were a fraud vicitm I can never be accused of being neglligent with something I don't use - a PIN.

If you are physically disabled and can't handle a PIN you maybe interested to learn that not one single card issuer has the faciltiy for new customers to apply for the type of card they need - Chip & Signature. (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

To meet the needs of ALL cardholders, I believe that card issuers should have an option on application forms for Chip & Signature. Either to comply with disability laws, or to act in the spirit of the Banking Code. Card issuers offer a product - Chip & Signature, but they fail to tell you anything about it, or how it works, or how to apply for it.

    It's YOUR choice.

Tip put it in writing if you need Chip & Signature.

I'm glad it's my choice James, I can't remember the last time I saw a check out operator compare my signature to my card, if ever.

Personally I think chip and pin is better than chip and signature as almost noone checks the squiggle on the back of the card with the one on the receipt properly and signatures are pretty easy to forge.
  • changed my pin at abbey.very easy, took about 1 min.
the reason i've changed the pin to the same as the maestero is caused i've had the same pin for 16 years.
the reason i got is a credit card cause someone got my old maestro card details and bought a nice £165 phone with it.
