selling our business

Hi, Need a little bit of reassurance. Was wondering if anyone else is selling a business at the moment. Our business has been up for sale since the middle of june and not much happening with regards to prospective buyers, just curious if this is normal as we have never sold a business before. Our business is well established and did well in the first year and half it has been established.

many thanks for any advice

hi thanks for this been told the very same thing by our agent this morning just thought they were giving us the same old nonsense.
  • If you have your businesses listed with an "Estate Agent" you are with the wrong agent. A business transfer agent is what you need. The market however is totally unregulated and some agents are charging hundreds of pounds upfront and overvaluing to get your business. I would recommend that you get a couple more valuations from other agents, they will be able to tell you whether your businesses are marketed at the right place or whether you have been duped.

We are in the middle of buying a small business. It was on the market for 18mths before we came along. There had been two other buyers but the sales had fallen through. I have been told that it does take a while before a serious buyer comes along and it depends what type of business it is as well. I'm not trying to be negative, just passing on what we have experienced. You may have better luck after Xmas as most people now are trying to move house in time for Xmas. Good luck.
