Burgular Alarm/Window Grills

Hello All
Unfortunatley, we were burguled end of January when we were away for the weekend.
They broke the patio door side glass to enter the property.
We are now thinking of
1) having a burgular alarm installed - any recommendations ?
2) Alternately, having grills installed on all the glass down stairs (includes windows and doors).
Anyone have any experience of having grilles installed and if so any recommendations for installers?
