OK I'm in new territory here (having been previously self employed and invoicing my companies every month to get paid. So simple: you owe me £x for this work. thanks).
Now I have been offered a 3 month 'contract' job at a company via a recruiter. I would become a 'contractor' for these 3 months. The recruiter said I should organise my payroll with an umbrella company. Already I was confused... After doing a bit of research I think I now understand the jist of things.
Do I now just go with the umbrella company the recruiter recommended or do I shop around? Is it worth the hassle for a 3 month job? what are the fees umbrella companies deduct from my payments? (is that how it even works?)
extra info: the recruiter has told me the wage is £15/hour (did they incorporate their own fee deductions into this offer?).. :think:_pale_

You can't get honest, good quality and cheap. They aren't compatible.
Do your own research, read plenty of reviews - we aren't here to do it for you.0 -

But its pretty obvious that nobody has - most people have had bad experiences with umbrella companies. A simple google search would have revealed this.
And yes, as a contractor, there is research involved - you need to find the best fit for yourself, yet you still seem to be very unable to do so. I wonder whether contracting really is for you.0 -
Ask the agency to suggest one. 3 months is a small contract, so it's not a big difference.0

no need to be all snarky and rude.
I have done lots of research. And guess what? Asking for opinions is the final part of my research. It can't help to ask! Don't reply if you have nothing helpful to say.
Thanks to the other poster0 -

And there was no need for you to be rude either.
Given this is a forum based around money saving, you should probably ask on an employment forum, not here. That would be the intelligent thing to do.0 -
I used Parasol for six months last year.
They were very good. Easy to set up with everything done online. Expenses, timesheet etc all with simple forms.
I chose them after other people at work recommended them.0 -
I used Paystream but I've now gone down the Ltd route but still using them as my accountants.0
