Is it possible to install 12V supply into car

Slightly to my astonishment I discovered that my new (to me) car doesn't have a 12V cigarette lighter supply. Every other car I've had has had one and I assumed they were so standard it didn't cross my mind to check (until we needed to plug in a pump to inflate a tyre of course).

So my question is, is it possible to wire one in, or is this not recommended for some reason?

Without knowing which car it is, its going to be difficult to know where the points are. Look in the boot side panels, consoles between the seats (front & back). As above, a car would be supplied with a 12v as standard, they are needed for a variety of appliances.

you really need to say what car because depending on age/car/model often the multiplug is already there behind the blanking plug
some modern cars dont have fitted as standard because it costs extra dunnit

It's a Nissan Micra, 63 plate. I guessed it was because of the extra cost (about £3 I should think!) but they are useful, and as mentioned above, necessary for all sorts of devices.. I looked everywhere I could think of including the boot but I'll have another look in daylight!

My son has a 61 reg micra and it doesn't have the usual 12v socket instead it has a usb charging socket which to be fair you can charge most things from but he did have to resign himself to the fact that the traffic adaptor on his Tom Tom is now redundant as it has the usual 'cigarette lighter' charger (good for me though cos he passed it over!).

It comes with a ciggy-socket compressor for a flat - but no socket? I find that hard to believe.

If you only need it for the compressor, then just chuck one of these in with the compressor.

I had a fiat 500 as a courtesy car and it got a flat tyre and had to use inflation kit, however the fuse had blown for the 12 v socket so I just dismantled the cigarette lighter plug on the compressor and stuck it across the battery. Worked ok for the short time I needed it fill the tyre with horrible tyre weld stuff.

The compressor was one we already had. That looks like a good solution - thanks! We used to use the ciggy lighter socket for plugging in a portable DVD player on long journeys, but that wouldn't really be practical I suspect! However, we (by which I mean they) can live without it and listen to their MP3 players instead.
