Why the need to go to the dr? why not wait a couple of weeks and test again?0

I take it as you have come off the pill you are wanting to get pregnant. This fact alone will have you interrogating every single little feeling. It might be possible but try not to put too much hope on it. Wait a few weeks and do another test.0

If you go to the doctor and tell him/her that you think you may be pregnant, the first thing that they will ask you is "have you done a test?"
You can get a pregnancy test done at the doctors (although I have recently heard of doctors refusing to do it at their surgery). They will ask you to drop a urine sample in to the surgery, then they will send it off to the lab and you'll get the results at some point between 3 days and 2 weeks later, you will most likely have to call for the result every day until it is back. It's not an emergency and they won't rush so don't bother, wait a couple of weeks and take another test at home.
Hope it's the result that you're waiting for!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

To come off the pill a fortnight ago, and to have had symptoms for a week, would say to me it's definitely just your body adjusting to the change in hormones.
Why not? It's a total myth that all woman ovulate on day 14 of their cycle. Some woman ovulate as early as day 8.
But I also agree that it's too early to know whether you are pregnant or not. If you are trying for a pregnancy you could have many months symptom spotting, so if you can best not to start down that path until you've been trying for a few months. Test in another 2 weeks if your period hasn't come but remember that after stopping the pill it can take a few months for your cycle to settle back down. Good luck0 -
When we tried for our eldest years ago now I became pregnant the first month after stopping the pill but it was not until 4 weeks after stopping it that I could take a test and know I was.
The midwife I saw at my first appointment also said a scan would need to confirm my dates because when you first come off the pill ovulation can happen earlier or later in the cycle than expected.
In my case the dates matched up to me getting pregnant around two weeks after stopping my pill but I had no symptoms at that point since it was too early and as mentioned the positive test was 4 weeks after stopping when my next period was due.
ETA: Sorry I know everyone has a scan to confirm dates, what I meant was that she wouldn't estimate a due date herself and said we would completely rely on the scan, slow brain day again!0 -

add to that the tests the doctors use are actually less accurate than some of the home tests0 -

No they don't. They use exactly the same ones as we buy in a pharmacy.0 -

Not exactly true.
They are just as accurate as the ones we *can* buy in a pharmacy, but the ones they tend to use as standard aren't very sensitive.
There are so many types of tests on the market now, with varying degrees of sensitivity. Some of them, much more sensitive than the ones GP's tend to use as standard.
However, with that said, most GP's won't test for a pregnancy these days unless they are trying to 'rule it out' as such, because the ones you can buy yourself and use at home are just as accurate. It's now a waste of money for GP's to routinely test every woman who thinks she might be pregnant (as opposed to one who has already had a positive test at home).February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
