I've just got mine and I love it. I had to play with the cache size to stop it buffering when playing files from the local network but now it's sorted.

I only use it to play local files so far, our internet (4G) would be too expensive for streaming but if Openreach ever get their act together and we get fttc then I'll be looking forward to trying it out properly.

ETA I should have said ours is a Fire TV Stick

the fire TV BOX has a lot more power than the stick , this is the one that has been upgraded.

it has the ability to accept devices by USB , onboard SD card holder to allow for proggys/data to be stored there , plus the ability to connect by Ethernet ,

once set up correctly , you can right click on a file and "send to" the device

it is only a machine , just like a calculator or a computer , it "might" play files in a vob format if you install the correct player on it.

I have not had a DVD in my house for many years , however I can tell you that if you build a machine with a DVD player connected , then the KODI/XBMC player will indeed play a DVD that contains VOB files
