Can an optician remove scratches from plastic lenses?
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

I would think they could but would always try and sell a new set instead0 -
There's some tips here on what you can try yourself to remove the scratches:

Hope you succeed ....0 -
No chance - as soon as you polish out the scratches, you alter the curvature of the lens surfaces, affecting the prescription and causing distortions.
Hope that clarifies that it is for technical and not commercial reasons why new lenses are the only option.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

You could try armor etch,,depends how bad the scratch is really..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

If it's the coating that's damaged (like mine), the optician may offer re-coating. For mine, I think they wanted £30-35 per lens.
I declined as in my opinion, the coating was faulty.
That optician has lost a customer.0 -
I've had problems with coating coming adrift in the past. As a result I now just avoid all forms of it.
I had a good set of frames -- previously containing badly degraded coated lenses -- reglazed with uncoated lenses for £19 all-in a couple of years ago, via mail order. Service, promptness and product quality were all excellent; if you're considering this as an option I'd recommend it.0 -
The answer is yes but it depends how deep the scratches are.
I got my lenses scratched when on holiday in China and I had the scratches removed and the lassie also replaced the nose clips and wouldn't take any money because she said I gave her the opportunity to practice her English!!0 -

I once had an optician try to tell me that the reason a lens coating was coming off was because it was due to the heat of my body!! I took out a Small Claims Court case and the optician stumped up to avoid going to court.
I remember the days when opticians were a respected profession alongside doctors and solicitors. Now they are just salesmen concerned only with their profit margins.0 -

and doctors and solicitors are still respected?
However, with opticians, I feel that the optical experience should be as it is in France, one business gives you the sight test, but then you go somewhere else, to buy your spectacles.
That way, the professional side is separated from retail. The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open0 -
They used to use jewellers rouge....
It might be worth chatting up a local jeweller, to see if they'd let you have a little. You'd only need a pinch of the rouge. Worth a try?0
