I've just completed a Barclaycard survey.

Some of the questions related to a new service called Contactless Mobile.

It appears to allow Barclaycard customers to use their mobile phone to make contactless payments.

When I attempt to use the feature on my Andoid phone via the Barclaycard app I get an error message: "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again."

We already have Apple Pay and Android Pay is rumoured to be launching in the UK within the next couple of weeks. Perhaps these render Barclaycard's offering a bit pointless.

Some info here.

  • I've used this in McDonalds a couple of times. In theory, it should make me brave enough to go out without my wallet, but I'm not confident enough in the technology yet to do that. Based on their frosty approach to Apple Pay, I suspect Barclays and Barclaycard will be taking their time in joining Android Pay - they seem to prefer the idea of re-inventing the wheel and having control of the entire payment platform themselves.

I've had this available in my Andriod app for a few weeks but to be honest I don't use the card for purchases only for balance transfers so have not used it yet.

From what I can gather (or rather what I've interpreted) if you happen to lose your Barclaycard with this offering you get a temporary replacement so you can use your account for contactless payments.

Which (in one way) is handy as (understandably) Apple Pay is suspended on any registered cards reported lost/stolen.

They are rumoured to be launching on Apple Pay relatively soon; I imagine it'll be on the back of next week's Apple launch for whatever gadgets they are announcing.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Got it working by clearing the app's cache and setting it up again.

Interestingly, the app is assigned a card number, expiry date and CCV which differ to the card it's attached to.

Perhaps that's for security and/or technical reasons.
