Floor tiling and decorating cost

Hi all,

Hoping if someone can tell me if my quotes are fair - one is for stripping and wallpapering my kitchen and one is for tiling my kitchen and bathroom floor:

Kitchen wallpapering - room is 4.5 sqm and needs 6 rolls of paper which we are supplying. Decorater will be stripping, prepping and then wallpapering. Quote was £255 to include all other materials apart from the paper.

The part of the kitchen floor we want tiled is 5 sqm and the tiler will chisel up and remove old tiles when finished.

Bathroom floor is 3 sqm and the quote includes a new hardbacked board going down and the toilet being removed and put back.

We will be supplying all tiles and for all other materials that quote was £480.

Most of your cost is labour. So it very much depends where you live. I live in Surrey and I would be happy with those prices. If you live in a cheaper part of the country they are probably on the expensive side.

Thanks so much - I am just outside Birmingham so think it does seem about right? Really liked the two guys who gave me quotes as well, they seemed genuine and have great reviews on mybuilder.com etc. Also liked photos of their work.

My wager is decorating is done in a day. Tiling will be 2 days. So you will be paying £200 ish per day. Which is probably a bit high for the midlands. But these are small jobs. And you like them and their work.

I would rather pay a bit much for someone i was confident in than the lowest price possible and be worrying if it will be done right.
