I've dented many things I've bought within 5 minutes! Suppliers know this. It's very difficult to prove you haven't been careless with it, as on the balance of probabilities, it is more likely to be user damage after that long.

In my experience decorating makes me more likely to damage things! But maybe that's me.
Seriously though it's far from clear cut and the company has made their position clear. There's nothing in consumer law to compel them to change and only a court can.0 -

No harm in copying from OFTs guidance and pasting it to the company though.
I've had numerous companies point blank refuse, only to backtrack when quoting appropriate legislation or guidance. Of course it might not compel them to change their stance but OP certainly has nothing to lose by trying - along with sending a LBA.You keep using that word.
