Noisy hot water cylinder in middle of night

Hello

I've recently had a new central heating system fitted:

Worcester 27i system boiler
Vented cylinder
Nest thermostat

Even with the heating and hot water switched off overnight the cylinder makes a noise like water rushing through the pipes / filling up.

This will last about 5 mins and then switch off for 5 mins before starting over again.

This was keeping me awake last night when I noticed it at 3am. I'm confused why the system would be making noise when no demand is being placed on it. Strangely if I turn the hot water on the noise stops and the system is next to silent.

Boiler is located in garage and outside temp was a low of around 5 degrees.

Will give the plumber I used a call but just thought I would ask on here first in case a bit of noise like this is normal?

Thanks

I wonder if the boiler is coming on to stop itself from freezing up? I believe this does happen when they sense a very cold house. I think you may be triggering it by having it in a cold garage.

The garage is an integral garage. Although reading the boiler manual it does talk about frost protection if the internal water of the boiler drops below 8 degrees.

That could well be it as the weather is still getting that low at the moment while it may be a little warmer in a garage it wont be far off outside ambenet temperature.

I would get a gas safe engineer out get to have a look and if you've just moved in get it serviced too.
