So has recently moved house and there is a strange ( to us) thingummy near the electric meter. What is it? The words "radio tele on it are puzzling.

It's part of the meter, you have a radio teleswitch E7 meter. It's the property of the meter operator.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
