O/S Daily Wednesday 16 March 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x
Now light, this morning looks very overcast, dull and dreich – forecast is for no rain just dull and dreich.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was SC beef casserole, mash, veg and Yorkshires, added a few different herbs and some tomato puree, didn’t seem to have that strange taste that I seem to get with food cooked in the SC, so a better result. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg – DS2 and myself have dentist’s appointments and very often are running late, so easy shove in the oven dinner needed.
Was reasonably productive yesterday, got the cleaner on the oven and then realised that it wasn’t such an awful state as I’d first thought – I’d put a heavy duty oven liner in the bottom of the oven, so once I’d got this out the bottom of the oven was reasonably clean, so got the rest of the oven cleaned without too much trouble, all put back together now. I need to buy another liner, but local MrT doesn’t appear to sell them anymore, but did find them online from somewhere else, so will order that today, I’ll get a couple so I have one in stock as I can’t buy them locally. Went to building society and sorted my ISA, so that’s all sorted, they’ll be writing to me shortly but I have paperwork already that the assistant printed out for me – the wonders of modern technology – when it works! I also got another couple of loads of washing done, put it out on the line, but it hasn’t dried as much as I’d like. I’m hoping to get our bed stripped, linen washed and dried and remade today, if it’s not a good line drying day I’ll put it in the TD not ideal as I haven’t used the TD this week at all, but I hate having damp/wet washing hanging about – it wasn’t so bad when I had a hot water tank in the airing cupboard as I just to put clothes on hangers or in piles and the heat was enough to dry them after a day or so but with a combi boiler I don’t have a hot water tank anymore.
Today I’ll be hoping to get the ironing done, there’s quite a pile, I’ll also be trying to get some housework done, I’ll just potter along as although I’m not achieving loads; jobs are getting done without putting myself under too much pressure and I’m not getting overwhelmed with it either.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Overcast here this morning but still dry, miracle! No washing today, DW can go on when I get home.
I forgot last night that I said I would make something for one of the classes cake bake so am trying to quickly make some oaty biscuits this morning.
Had a good nights sleep for a change, must have been my late Monday night catching up with me.
Hope everyone's ok, BB and LW - would be good to hear from you.
Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Yesterday was another beautiful day and hopefully it will be again.
I've got a hair cut at 9.00am and then I'm going to head across to Arran for a mooch around. I'll not make the 10.00am sailing so have plenty of time until the next one. There's one particular shop I want to go to and also Arran Aromatics too. It's only a 40 minute trip.
Candlelight - this is the start of week three of BSD. The fact that I have stuck faithfully to it all this time is amazing to me. I haven't got a set of scales so can't check for sure but certainly my clothes are already loose.
Yesterday morning I (finally) cleared out my overflowing T-shirt drawer. I don't wear short sleeved Ts anymore because of my flabby arms so they have all gone to the charity shop. Excess socks gone to recycling and the knicker drawer is also looking much tidier.
My PVG meeting was fine, I'm now officially with the local football club sorting out the checks for coaches etc. The chap who had done it previously was so relieved to hand it over. I checked beforehand that I didn't have to go to training or matches, couldn't face that. A bit a admin is bearable.
The sky look is lovely so I may be forced to rise and shine, if the sun can do it then so can I.
Happy Wednesday everyone.0 -
Morning all. Not such a nice start today but at least it's staying dry! I hope the poorlies and you and yours with toothache soon get sorted out. TOPSY hope your son's interview goes well today. CANDYGIRL I hope there isn't too much noise from the building work next door. GERS have a lovely trip over to Arran.
I am feeling a bit sorry for myself. A cold descended on me from nowhere yesterday and I really thought I was starting with 'flu. I couldn't get warm and felt all shivery and achey. I feel much improved this morning though my nose is still streaming and I am doing much coughing and peffing. It's been going round all the family so it seems it's now my turn!
Nonetheless, we plan a day out today and maybe the fresh air will help clear it up. It's a toss up between Ilkley and a walk along the river or Skipton and a walk along the canal. Whichever it is, a late lunch will be involved afterwards. I had accumulated £25 from doing surveys on Opinium and that went in my bank yesterday. So treating ourselves to a nice lunch with it!
So no cooking to be done today and will probably just settle for a snack this evening. Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Did not get to the hospital in the end yesterday just after posting I had a terrible tummy upset which lasted all day, so phoned then to re arrange and got a snotty receptionist telling me off !! I told her it clearly said on the letter not to come if you are unwell but that I would come if she thought it would be ok to spread the germs ? she soon changed her tune !
Off to work today and no mums for dinner tonight as she is unwell too, so I have a pie I can shove in the oven with some new potatoes.
Need to do a wash tonight and have a sweep through.
Topsy well done on passing your exam xx and good luck to your DS xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning :hello:

My neighbour borrowed a wheelbarrow yesterday morning, my dad was here when he brought it back. Turns out they know each other – mum and dad's next door neighbour is his sister, his mum was friends with my nan and about 40 years ago, his mum made me a soft toy – a stuffed scotty dog, I remember that dog! We met a few times when I was little but didn't recognise each other when I moved four doors away from him in 1997
Little Mate came round yesterday, I opened the front door when I saw the car pull up outside. He trotted down the drive with a big grin on his face, carrying a little potted plant he'd bought for me, he looked so pleased with himself, lol. He was playing ball with Scampi, Scampi got a bit grabby with the ball so I told him 'wait'. He froze, and so did LM. Dog was looking at me, perfectly still, LM was bending down to pick up the ball when I spoke and he froze in that position :rotfl:
Yesterday was much busier than planned so I'm hoping for a peaceful day. I'm going to start the housework in a mo, when everyone's left for work I'll have my shower then go for a walk. The shopping's coming just before lunch, hopefully the delivery driver is the last person I see for the rest of the day, I can't cope with too many people today

I'm back and I have bitten the bullet! I have ordered the Michael Mosley BS diet book! Those of you following the diet seem to be doing so well on it and finding it reasonably easy to stick to so here's hoping I can do as well! Considering I could easily live on bread and potatoes I'm not sure how easy I will find it! I don't need to lose a lot of weight but if I could shift the 10 lbs or so that's been clinging to my midriff for the last couple of years then I would be happy! xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Good morning all,not a good night's sleep as crown giving me gyp.Still dentists at 11.30 so maybe he can sort out something.Lost three lbs this past week though as eating is difficult because my gnashers are so sensitive hot or cold food is very painful, so at least thats a help with the dieting
:):)There is always something good to come out of bad I find
:):)
Bright and a little bit milder today, not poked my head outside yet ,but I am hoping the wind has dropped a bit.
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Good morning, thank you nmic for starting us off.
It is very overcast here at the moment and it is trying to rain.
Had a lovely get together with our old boss and his wife yesterday and the rest of us retired "girls". It was sad to see he isn't as well as he could be, and clearly his wife is very worried about him. Needless to say, like many of us, he is having tests. He was such a tall upright man, but now he is quite stooped.
We need to pop to SM for a few fresh bits but not much else.
Gers well done with the BS diet. We are in our fifth week and I honestly feel so much better. I have lost a full stone now, but the main thing is my BS is at a good level, and subsequently the rest of "me" feels good.
GOOD NEWS Himself has made an appointment with the GP. The first appointment was next Tuesday, but at least he has done it. DD tried to talk to him on Monday about how serious his symptoms are and then DGD1 asked him to see the doctor, so when he went for a paper yesterday he called into the surgery and made the appointment. I had tried to explain how worried I was and I am afraid I became a bit upset, so perhaps it was a combination of all 3 of us. There is no cure for his heart failure but his symptoms can be relieved with the right medication - will keep you posted.
TA sorry you haven't felt well, there seems to be several nasty bugs doing the rounds, from coughs and colds to tummy bugs, take care
Have a good day all

TA well done, like you I love bread but if I can do it so can you. You do have to be a little more inventive with meals, but being retired I have the time. Himself enjoys everything I give him now, and I know most men expect to have potatoes with a meal, I think that was the way we were brought up, but he says he hasn't missed them.
If you need any ideas for meals please let me know. We haven't stuck to the 800 cals a day, I think that would be difficult for people of our age, so I think we probably eat about 1000 cals.
Good luck, there is you trying to feed DH up and you trying to lose a little.

Morning all,
Had a lovely day yesterday. Went out with my friend, Helen. Had lunch at the garden centre, then treated myself to a pair of Pavers slippers. Velcro all round, so when my ankles swell, I can loosen them. Really comfy.
DS AND DDIL arrived yesterday. He drove all the way from Cumbria to Hastings. Only passed his test in January! Really proud of him.
Going for my Hospice pamper day today. Looking forward to it. Last night I made chicken, ham and leek pie. Tonight I am taking them to the Chinese.
DD is short of money again. I refuse to bail her out again. I haven't got it this time.
Have a good day all!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
