Hi All!
Grandmas got a Whirlpool fridge/freezer about 10yrs old but working fine, except...
the actual door closure seal on the fridge is not closing fully, so it's starting freezing & I mean freezing everything in it - even had some cans fizzy freeze & burst!
Rang Whirpool service guy & he seemed to think it an awkwrd, ie EXPENSIVE task!!
Any thoughts, of £$£$ or easyness for DIY??
Thanks.

1. Go down to the local council fridge disposal and find a door seal in good nick, replace the one on Grandma's. OR
2. Look in the local free ad paper and buy her another fridge (used). OR
3. Ask a local charity like HELP THE AGED if they will fund another fridge. OR
4. Put your hand in your pocket and buy her a new one yourself !!!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
Or try here
They have spares for washing machines, cookers etc.
I last used them a couple of years ago. Bought bearings for a washing machine. They where really helpful and nice.
Hope that helps.

Sounds like the thermostat, shouldn't be expensive to purchase, (£10ish)
and quite easy to replace, don't forget to unplug firstDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I'll second the thermostat being easy to replace - I've done it myself.
Is the door hung properly? I had problems with my freezer becoming icebound on the top two shelves, further investigation showed that the door had become slightly loose and wasn't sealing shut properly. Just needed slight adjustment with a screwdriver (most doors are able to be hung right/left). Been fine since.
Also, my fridge is an integrated one and the door on that has needed adjusting over the years because if it isn't shut properly it starts icing up at the back and prevents you shutting it properly(shelf gets pushed forward), which means it ices up, which stops you shutting it properly......0 -
I'll try the re hanging thing - it can have the doors opening either way, so maybe somethings come adrift!
Fingers crossed!

PS.. Another thing to look at -- If the dor seal appears to be OK i.e. not frayed or worn, try giving it a good clean with a grease removing cleaner, obviously one that won't harm the seal itself. Use some fine wet & dry sandpaper to take the shine off the surface, maybe it will then give a good seal, providing the door is shutting properly etc. Wouldn't think it is the thermostat, if you know the door is not sealing properly."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

That reminds me of one of those 'secrets of the trade' programmes that you see on TV. Apparently fridge doors can warp over the years so the doors dont seal properly. The 'secret of the trade' was to get the customer out of the room and give the door a damn good twist - foot on the bottom and pull hard on the top with both hands.
Scardy-cat get-out clause: I have no idea how well it works, how hard you have to pull, or what symptoms to look for.
