Will this affect my credit score?

Hi there,
Got a simple situation. Moved houses in october, and during the weekend I got a letter from advantis to give them a ring. I did, confirmed my details with them and they said that there is due bill from water company. So i've asked to what address they've sent it, and they did indeed send it to the old address. I've replied to just send me a copy of the bill to the new address and I will pay it the moment I will receive it as at this moment this is just some conversation over the phone and before I fork over 220 pounds I want to see the bill. She agreed and said that they will send it over soon.
I am rather new in the country, not even 3 years yet and so far got meticulous rating as I work very hard to build it (including getting a pre-paid credit card to begin with so I can even start building it, as new immigrant I wasn't eligible for even the worst of the worst cards). I for life could swear that I did send a letter to the water company about my move to the new place but I also did not send it tracked or kept copy of it.
So my question is, will that show on my credit report? I didn't receive the bill yet, so don't have more details than the above.

You need to ask them or check your credit files.0

Okay so I've followed up. What has happened is that "someone" (I am 99% certain that this someone is my previous landlord) closed my account with the water company (before I was even out of lease) and while they've added my right contact address, they've also turned on paperless billing and did not put in the right email, they've also changed the phone number on the account. The account was and still is in my name, but closed now.
The account went into default and it was/will be reported with credit companies, but the lady on phone couldn't verify where it is now.
What is my out here? I made the payment as soon as I was aware of it, I didn't close the account and due to the way it was closed it was not possible for me to be aware that it was a problem before. I imagine that there is some appeal process for it, because I think that I am right that I should not suffer consequences of that. Should I also report it with the police? It doesn't seem kosher what was done, and I imagine that the person had to impersonate me in order to change the details on my account.0
