Cheap Carpet to use for a year

I am currently in process of buying a flat. The whole place needs redecorating. However the living room carpet is not something I could live with even in the short term. So I would be looking to replace this as soon as possible. My eventual intention would be to put laminate or vinyl throughout the hall/kitchen/living room but I wouldn't put that down until I was happy with the walls in case I spilled paint on the flooring. If I bought a cheap carpet down that I was looking to replace within first 2 years would underlay be necessary or would newspaper do?

Thanks

Kirsty

Sounds like you need to go to carpet right or similar national chains... Personally I wouldn't buy second hand cars ever for regularly used areas such as living room...

Call around your local carpet stores for mesmeasures or seconds big enough to do your room.

Polyester felt backed carpet is the cheapest carpet you can get. You don't need underlay, you don't need grippers. It's very lightweight you can fit it yourself. It has an estimated lifespan of 5 years when used in a light traffic area.

is it a ground floor flat? If not there may be restrictions on what sorts of 'hard' floorcoverings you are permitted.

I'd definitely give give away sites such as freegle, trash nothing etc. a go before spending any money. When I moved into my home a couple of years ago I had the very good quality carpet & not very old, taken up from what is an extremely large lounge/dining room as I knew that the original floors were oak parquet, which I intended to get restored.

I put the carpet & underlay up on offer on Freegle, & I had quite a few responses. Some months later, when having new carpets laid in the bedrooms, I did the same with the only bedroom carpet that was in good condition.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
