Plaster skimming

Options
Skimming for walls/ceiling in 3 rooms (15x10', 12x10' and 11x9') and replastering walls and skimming ceiling for 1 room (10x7'), to be done in the North. All materials covered/waste removed.

Quoted nearly £2000 which seems a bit much (although does include new coving in one of the rooms and the rooms are tall). Getting a second quote but what should I be expecting?

Bit of a mix. Two of the rooms skimming over normal plaster walls and artex ceiling.

The biggest room is artex walls and ceiling being skimmed over.

The two biggest rooms rooms are about 2.8 metres tall I think, whereas the other two are just bog standard height (2.4?).

Its about right. Going over artex walls is a nightmare and often has to be bonded. Probably 7 labour days plus a 'lad'.

Well the big (15x10' with 2.8m height) artex all over room is the main cost with a £700 quote for skimming.

Is that fair then? Bear in mind this is unfurnished rooms with nothing to move.

Looking online at rooms this size it seems to vary wildly from £300-800 so that is why I'm a bit hesitant.

But on line quotes aren't the same as someone actually visiting the job, assessing what is required and time it will take. On line prices are an averaging process. If you're not happy, get another quote.

It seems very expensive to me. I have recently got a 4 bedroom house fully skimmed and dot/dab throughout including ceilings for £3k plus materials. The final quality of the works has been impressive. PM me as I am also up north so could pass you the details of the plasterer I used.
