exchange rates

Hi Ive seen on the web site that Thomas Exchange Global has a very good exchange rate for US dollars, they are not a company I have heard of before and am abit unsure about using them. Has anyone used them to exchange money and what were they like??

Any help would be great!!

this sticky on the board is all about the travel money maximiser and has comments from people about different places.

i'm planning to use thomas exchange global next week despite having not used them before - i've seen plenty of posts from people on MSE about using them and the biggest issue seems to be long queues!

If you are travelling through the airport, you can book your currency online with Travelex, and they will match TEG's price. You just need to email them with your booking reference and TEG's price, and they will send you a cheque for the difference!

(Good to see I'm not the only one still avoiding work, melancholly!)

they have branches throughout the UK at cheque centres etc, and their $ exchange rate today is $1.96. its a couple of ¢ less, but no queues, and it is the second best rate really around!

Thomas global exchange do deliver for a fee of £5,for some reason this is not shown on MSE money maximiser, neither does it jump out at you on their website.

I have set up an account (fax them i/d). I deposit money in their account by bank transfer (telephone banking in my case) having contacted them by phone first to set the exchange rate on that particular day, then email them to confirm.

They claim they will send the money out the next day.
Even with the £5 we find we have got more for our money. We also have friends who we are going to order euros for at the same time, thus saving them money too. I see the exchange rates for euros is 146 today so I am going to put in my order very soon.

    As an example with euros
£100 pounds gets you 146 euros at Thomas
    " 135 euros at Thomson
    " 142.70 euros at M & S

    without including the delivery
  • So you have used them before, and they have been ok for you??

Yep ... I was collecting from East Mids so no way I was collecting my currency from their branches in London, but Travelex did not try to add on any delivery charge (TBH I didn't realise that TEG did deliver)! x
