Hi i made an order for a sofa suit on bank holiday Monday. But i want to cancel it now. I've looked through all the receipt papers but cant see anything about cancellation clauses. I emailed them after they wouldn't pick up the phone saying I would like to cancel under contract cooling offf. Any ideas how I can cancel?

I don't want to worry you, I'm sure DFS will allow you to cancel the order.
However, I’m almost certain contract cooling off periods only apply when the sale is made 'cold' i.e. not instigated by you. Assuming you went into DFS you probably arn't legally entitled to cancel, its at DFS discretion. In the same way your not leagally entitled to take back unwanted food to a supermarket (though most allow you). If you bought by mail-order or the internet then different laws apply.
Please, please check the above before getting worried.
A note to everyone else, I think this even applies to the below situation.
You get a phone call, " Hello, can we send a sales representative around". If you agree, you are inviting them, so are instigating the sales process so cooling off periods don't apply here either, unless written into a contract. All in all its a bit of a toothless law it only really applies to people who accost you on the street or just stump up at your door. Though I’m not aware of any of it having been tested in the courts, yet.

we have bought from dfs previosly and i am sure they give you a 7 day cooling off period...after this you can still cancel but the will charge you for doing this and if you paid a deposit...that is non refundable....but that was 3 years agao and things may have changed by now0

Hi
Hopefully you can cancel as it was ordered so recently.
Just wanted to advise that you definitely so cancel and don't reorder at DFS as we had so many problems with our sofa from there. It broke so many times and they kept insisting they fix it, only for it to break again a few weeks later. We chucked it out in the end. We had it 3 years and it was probably only useable for a total of about 12 months of that.
The sofas look good but not worth the hassle and at £800 wasn't even that cheap.

Hi PM.
I had a similar problem previously, I ordered a sofa and wasn't happy so sent a letter to cancel and was told I couldn't. I replied saying I had been forced into the sale and hadn't been 100% happy with the suite or the fact I was told I could not take it without the fabric spray etcetc and that I would not be paying for something I had been forced into. The area manager phoned me himself to ask what the problem was, I explained and in the end he (rather angrily) said he'd cancel the order as it was such a good deal he'd be able to sell it to the next person that walked in the door.
Despite this they still constantly bombard me with mail about their offers etc....:rolleyes:0 -
Legally, you do not have any right to cancel the order.
Therefore, maybe you are best to escalate your complaint?Gone ... or have I?0
