Large Pre-Pay Meter Credit

Hi all,

I was made to have pre-pay meters installed by Scottish Power in 2012, as I had a debt that I was struggling to pay.

By my estimation, I should have been debt-free by December 2014. When the meter continued to charge me, I phoned them several times to ask for a statement to see how much I still owed. They didn't send any statements, and continued to take money from the meter.

I phoned again in January, and this time I spoke to someone who seemed to know what he was doing, who ran lots of checks and told me both meters were over £450 in credit.

He passed on the details to an investigation team, who were supposed to be checking the credit. This was over 7 weeks ago, and they still haven't concluded the investigation. I keep phoning, but they won't put me through to the investigations department to get an update, and keep telling me I just have to wait. Also, I've tried to complain and because there's an open investigation. they won't even let me leave a complaint on file.

Is there anything I can do? They won't even let me go back onto a credit meter :-(

Thanks

Write to them. Make sure you write COMPLAINT at the top of the letter.

Phone calls they can ignore, but they wont ignore complaint letters because they have a duty to get it resolved or they'll end up with a fine.

prepayment meters will continue to take money off the credit you have even though all debts are paid..Its called standing charges..everyone pays this, except Ebico customers..It can be as much as £2.50 a week.
check the debt screens on the meters to see if true debt is on the meters and how much, if any remains....electric are on screens S and T, gas are on 26 and 27. These screens can only be seen with key or card inserted. You dont have to phone them to see what debts are left on the meters, its all there to see for yourself.
