Refused 2nd HSBC bank account

So I switched to an HSBC bank account last month and after a few hiccups and a moan on the phone, the account is switched and active. I then applied on 4th of March for a second basic bank account to help manage money. I've not heard anything so gave them a call, to be told I cant have a basic bank account because I've already got a current account. My only option is to have a second current account; but the requirements for the account are to pay in £500 per month, which I would most likely not be doing, certainly not every month.
Has anyone managed to get a second basic bank account with HSBC or am I wasting my time with this bank? ( I think I know the answer!)

I suspect you're wasting your time with HSBC, from anecdotal evidence from friends they really look for reasons not to open basic accounts, even if you fit the criteria, which of course you don't. Try another bank.0

I think you'll be wasting your time with most banks now, not just HSBC. Many of the banks are limiting their basic banks accounts to people in financial difficulty who can't get an ordinary current account. You've got an ordinary current account, so you won't qualify.0

To be fair though most banks do offer a standard current account (one above basic) that has no pay in requirement.0

I have 2 HSBC Advance accounts (for no particular reason) - they certainly allow more than one current account with them. Albeit, as has been mentioned, nobody can have a Basic account now, at any UK bank, if they qualify for a 'normal' current account.0
