Thanks BeenThroughItAll you may have a point! What is Cat A Clean? Where can I buy it and where do I put it? As you can see I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to cars!!
EuroCarParts is one option, bound to be one near you. Otherwise, you can buy it online.
Chuck it in the fuel tank with a full tank of petrol, then drive the car hard for a while. Won't do any harm at all.
Also at the very least, get an oil and filter change if you haven't already. If it were me, I'd change the fuel filter and spark plugs at the same time.0 -

good point, also add engine noise. Diesels are meant to be loud, petrols aren't meant to be as loud. So OP could be revving the petrol up to the same sort of loudness as the diesel. Revs should be 3k-ish, 2k for most economical fuel consumption but to stay in 2k revs you'll need to accelerate very very gently to not waste fuel and annoy road users behind.
or try to match the torque of the diesel and press hard on the gas, petrols aren't meant to be so torque-y at low speeds.0 -
I get about 47mpg on average from my 2011 1.25 Fiesta, I drive mostly on motorways at between 60 and 70mph. When I'm doing lots of short urban journeys, it can go as low as 30mpg, anything less than that would worry me. It would be worthwhile making more careful mpg measurements before spending money on garage tests though.
I get just over 40mpg from my 2000 1.7 Puma. 20mpg from a Fiesta is something seriously wrongRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

My GF was getting 20mpg from a Ford KA, basically because it didn't have a tachometer and she kept changing gear before 2k rpm (check via OBDII port), she wondered why the whole car juddered and shaked up hills..... Well doing 30 up hill in 4th gear is never going to go well.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Driving it like a diesel and foot to the floor in top gear at 10mph?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Thanks for the responses - I guess I need to get it looked at. I've not done any motorway driving at all since I have had it and been getting the train to meeting as I don't really trust it. I bought it because it had one previous owner from new who was an elderly man and it's only done 5.5k miles. It has full service history etc. I'm just baffled
Perhaps an oil flush and / or an Italian tune-up is needed.
How many miles on it now?0 -
it's used 145 worth! ... 65 in 6 weeks! I do roughly 25 per day.
Have you got something against using units of measure?
For clarity it's best to actually state what your number is referring to!
miles, £s, litres?Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Sorry £145, 25 miles per day...
I've ordered catAclean online and will see if it makes a different.
I do know that I'm not able to drive a 1.25 petrol car the same way as a 1.6 diesel car. There is definitely something wrong with it. The Garage told me in the latest service which was February that the oil filters etc had been changed.
I will try this catAclean see if it makes a difference and if not I'll take it to a garage for them to look at0 -
Has it been through any large puddles or flooded roads ?
The air filters can get a gobful on fiestas and turn to splodge making the engine labour for air and guzzle petrol.
Open the filter box and check its clean and dry and not turned to mush.I do Contracts, all day every day.0
