easy/cheap staging for loft?

Hi All, me again :j
I'd like to kit out sections of my loft with some lightweight shelving.
Given the large amounts of insulation in place, boarding off the entire floor isn't an option. I was thinking of putting down a walkway and then having shelving close to the walkway that would be fastened only to the joists and so it could stand above the insulation without affecting it.
I was reminded of the type of tubular clip together shelving units you can get that are used to construct those cheap mini-greenhouses and for cheap greenhouse 'staging', like this:

Those things above cost about £15 each, so would work out quite expensive.
I'm wondering if you can buy the tubes and plastic clip together joints in bulk somewhere? Those tubes are made of thin metal but I think plastic tubes would be sufficient for most of my needs.
Anyone got good ideas for a money saving way to source these parts?
Or any similar alternatives?
I could just use timber instead but then I have to build a frame using screws and it would be a lot more hassle than the simple clip together stuff I'm thinking of.:D

How much storage do you need?
How about something like loft ledge.

Very interesting idea thanks, would be interested but my loft is a different design and doesn't have the 600mm trusses. The beams, or whatever you call them are metres apart.Silver-Surfer wrote: »How much storage do you need?
