Travel insurance question

If you are on a package holiday, travelling as a family, do all members of the family need to be on the same insurance policy?

The reason I ask is because I booked a holiday initially for myself and my daughter and took out insurance that suited us two, my wife had planned on visiting her parents, however, this has fallen through and she is now coming on holiday with us. The complication is that my wife has Bipolar Disorder and the insurance company we've gone with are looking for an absolute fortune to add her to the policy, normally we take out insurance with her in mind.

So, can I keep the existing policy for myself and daughter and go with a separate policy for my wife, I'm only really interested in her being covered medically and perhaps for the value of clothes ect should her suitcase go missing, she doesn't do technology so apart from her phone which is a secondhand iPhone 5c there's nothing of real value, I tend to look after the cards and money.

No, you don't need to be on the same policy and can take out separate ones. I never go on the same policy as my OH, we get our own.

I didn't think it would matter, just wanted to be sure, technically, I have travel insurance through my bank account but I never bother with it as it would cost more to add my pre existing medical condition than it does to take out my own, IIRC they wanted £30 to add my high blood pressure, yet I can buy a policy covering myself and daughter for less than £20.
