Somehow my post didn't come up right. Prices are showing on the bottom somehow. It was £17000 total.

I will try to edit the post to make it right.
  • From my (limited) experience, does seem a bit high. about 10 years ago we moved house and had work done that seems broadly similar albeit on a smaller scale.

To supply & fit the Howdens Kitchen was about 4.5K (including the plumbing, minor electrical, flooring and plastering, together with hob and oven). The labour charge worked out at about £200 per day - like yourself we chose a tradesman with a good reputation and were happy with the work.

we also had a full re-wire for the house which cost about 2.5k (an electrician we knew did it over a few weekends)

Other bits & pieces we did cost us about 8k including a new bathroom and flooring throughout, cavity wall insulation, boarding and insulating the loft, so about 15k in total for what amounted to almost a total refurb.

That was however 10 years ago .....

Thank you. We have the half of the money which I thought would cost in total. We will have to get loan for the rest if we accept. :(

It depends what Howdens Units are quoted for. They do the Greenwich range which is their entry level, right up to the solid timber Tewksbury and loads in between. We need to know which range, plus how many units, types of worktops etc.

The electrical prices are outrageous, as is venting of extractor.

    You need more quotes.

Thank you for your reply phill99. Its the tewksbury range. I dont know how many units as it doesnt show in the quote but L shaped 5×4 size kitchen. I am ok with £6000 quote for it really. I never imagined £11000 on top of the kitchen quote.

£2k to fit a small simple kitchen, £3k for a typical install, £4k for a large kitchen would be my rough guide. By small i mean a terrace, galley kitchen, 1 run wall and base units, sink, cooker, wash machine, no worktop butt & scribe. Simple plumbing and tiling, vent out hood, new electrics.

When we fit a kitchen we do everything, rip out, electrics and tiling. gas work has to be done by competent person and certified. Our work is 1st class honestly, you are paying £200 per day at our prices ! Your quote sounds high to me, was it £400 for a bedroom door and £475 to swap a rad? I'd say a rad swap £100 inc drain down and new inhibitor, it takes about 3 hours and i'd be happy with £100 for that. I wish my customers were more like you!!

Lol I wish my builder was like you mr generous. I am surprised myself how high his price was. Yes its for a bedroom door and a small double radiator in hallway that takes so much space. So I said replace it with a single radiator.

I forgot to say those quotes are for labor only, but do you realise how cheap a small single rad is? typically about £20 - £25 and a plumber will buy a litre of inhibitor (corrosion prevention liquid for your system) for less than £10. New valves again less than £10 even with a thermostatic control.
