windy hard-drive

I never noticed how noisy my hard-drive is, like a wind, until I noticed how quiet my mums is?

Anyone know a simple solution or is mine just a noisy one?

It's probably not the hard drive, but a case fan. The first thing to do is ascertain where the noise is coming from.

You can replace the case fans very cheaply (I just bought some super-quiet ones for less than £3 each), and you can also change the fan that sits on the CPU (although I wouldn't recommend this unless you're confident about messing around with PC components as you could fry the chip if you don't replace the new fan correctly).

If the noise is coming from hard drives or optical drives, you could try using some foam or rubber to dampen the vibrations.

The other possibility is the fan in your power supply. It's pretty dangerous to open the power supply up, so if it's making a noise just replace it if necessary.

    Hope this helps...
