Insulating entire home?

The point about spotlights was a good one. I installed 100mm of acoustic rockwool insulation in the ceiling void above our living room. I wanted spotlights (LED) and so I cut a circle into the rockwool (using a paint tin as my guide) and snugly fitted these insulated spotlight covers into the gap:

Their acoustic properties helps prevent noise from the living room passing into the bedroom above, they help insulate the ceiling but most importantly they improve the fire rating of the ceiling.0 -
Hi MM...have just received a quote for (part house) Exterior Wall Insulation.
49 sq. metres is going to cost me £1,386 plus a £4k grant from the local council. The grant is conditional on up to date level of loft insulation and maybe double glazing.0 -
Ironically the government have helped and you've obviously mist the boat. They threw millions at all different types of insulation for people on and off benefits through the green deal scheme. Tbh I would just wait as there is bound to be a replacement scheme at some point0

I had the standard amount of insulation between the joists and then added boards over the area I wanted to use for storage. I moved abroad for a bit and on my return realised I needed to still improve matters, so put down Celotex on the old loft boards and then more boards on top of that. In the rest of the loft I put down insulation roll which I think was encapsulated and was easy and clean enough to handle. 200mm rings a bell. A spare bit of Celotex went on top of the cold water tank.
When I go away for 2/3weeks skiing I open up theloft hatch and put the CH on constant at about 12 to avoid freezing issues, but as it's a well insulated terrace house and it wasn't a cold winter the heating never came on. You could put in a frost stat and heater, but there again for me there seems no need.0
