Right to refund and return for computer bought online?

Do I have a right to a refund and return for a computer I have bought online. I am very unhappy with the noise it makes and the lack of a cd drive means I cant install my software.

Possibly not. You not noticing that it didn't have an optical drive is your fault. As for the noise, what sort if noise is it ? Is it a gaming machine or a standard user's one ?

As above really. You can return it but don't expect full refund.

What sort of noise is it - hard disk, fan?
  • External USB optical drives are cheap and available everywhere . . .

Did you not notice the cd drive wasn't listed in the machines specs ?

As for the noise, depends what noise. You might be able to get a refund on the basis of the noise but contact the retailer and inform them.

Was it made to order or off the shelf?

Unlikely to be relevant. None of the bits inside would have been actually made to order, they are all off the shelf, even though they were assembled into a working PC. This link is regarding the DSRs but it's the same for CCRs https://www.unlockthelaw.co.uk/distance-selling-regulations.html

Was it a full computer/laptop OR was it a netbook/chromebook or similar such a device? I know it's not always standard for the real mccoy to have an optical drive but it's generally the done thing on a full spec machine. The second option however tends to cut out things which aren't required in order to cut costs & since they generally won't need them they tend to forego optical drives.

It wouldn't be the first time someone who is inexperienced with computer technology has bought a device thinking it's something good only to claim fault when it's revealed they're a computer lite. Certainly doesn't sound out of the realms of possibility as a computer savvy person would generally have alternatives to the lack of an optical drive. (external drives, downloading the software) Where someone who's technologically challenged would not have the where with all to think of those alternatives.

As has been asked before, tell us what the noises are roughly, cos almost all computers make various noises.

Was just about to suggest that and ask what software as some offer download from their sites free and you just input a licence activation code.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
