Redundancy and Voluntary Nat Ins

I have recently been made redundant and have decided to take 6-12 months off to spend time with my children before taking up paid employment again. I'm trying to find out how and if I should make voluntary national insurance contributions whilst I'm not employed. I've read that this may not be necessary if I'm receiving Child benefit as I receive credit for my national insurance with this. Any ideas?

  • If the CB is paid to you in your name then you will get N.I credits, you will only need 35 years N.I.
Also why not sign on for JSA if you qualify you get 6 months cont based (not affected by capital/household income), once they start giving you hassle about finding a job just sign off.
