Abbey Online making things up

On several occasions our online banking with Abbey seems to pluck number from thin air, sometimes changing several times a day, sometimes saying the balance doesn't include money that has pysically gone in that day etc.

We have been using cash since thursday, purposely. I knew how much was available to spend so i took it out. card payments that were made on thursday have been cleared and showing as such, and direct debits that were due to leave on 1st month have left today.

but the silly things reckons £130 is 'pending' to leave the account, therefore making us overdrawn. anyone else experience anything like this?? I know for a fact nothing should be pending as i have made a note of everything that went on the crad and its all cleared?!?!?!

  • I went into local Abbey branch last week. Was a sign in the branch apologising for longer waits, as the "new" and improved system was "slower" than the old one. Maybe this is another example of the "new system" at work?

I did notice that when I go online, the balance you get on the first page when you log on doesn't often correspond with the balance on your latest statement, because some transactions are missing.
I had some problems like that in may-june, and they said that it was because of the transfer over Santander's system.
I thought the problem was solved, and it worked well for a while but apparently it's getting back like how it was then.
Will Abbey ever do anything right again?
Such a shame, it used to be such a good bank with hardly any problems.
Welcome to the takeover syndrome (changes but only for the worse).

we phoned customer serv (a fat lot of help they were), if anyone else needs to call them you can find a landline number or freephone number on say no to 0870, anyway the lady was no help and then disconnected us.

I have just logged on and from me thinking we had £70 available last night, to being £57 overdrawn we are now £407 in credit!!! Yippee!!!! If only this were true! But still on the statement page it shows last balance was about £70, nothing has gone in, nothing has come out but we have gained over £300. How generous of them! NOT! I'm sure it will change again by the morning.

I have experienced similar problems with the Abbey as well. I raced down to the branch yesterday morning to deposit cash into my account as I knew Direct debits were coming out and today they have recalled one evn though there is enough money in there - what is going on!!! I sent a stroppy email as I didn't want to waste my time talking to someone at the call centre who wouldn't be able to help me.

There are always problems with transactions going through over the bank holidays, apparently when you use your card, the Abbey puts your money to one side and the retailer has 5 days to claim it before it puts that amount back into your available balance, After the May bank holiday, I had transactions going through 2 weeks after I had used my card.

I am waiting to see what happenes to my complaint and if they refuse to stop the charges i will change bank accounts.
  • i managed to speak to an english speaking customer service advisor at abbey, luckily! no offence but the advisors who do not have english as their 1st language are no help, i struggle to understand them , but more so they cannot understand me and i just end up arguing with them.anyway, abbey have no reason as to why my rent was taken back, have assured me no charges will put onto t he account (we'll see) so we'll see how things pan out over the next few days.

They do still seem to be making changes to the online system. It recently started showing a much higher level of detail on transactions, which is all very well but it means that fewer transactions show on screen at any one time. And transfers between accounts outside banking hours have started to be shown immediately again. This always used to be the case, but after the "migration to Santander" this had changed to next working day. So given recent experience, if they are still making changes it's not surprising if it isn't working like it should.
