How much does it cost to renovate a small kitchen?

Hi all,

How much does it cost to renovate a small kitchen?

Let's say you want to update the cabinets, kitchen worktop, kitchen floor.

How much would it roughly cost?

  • As a property developer I would have 'Ball Park' figures of

    Kitchen £1000
    Tiles £300
    Electrics £200
    Plumbing £100
    Tile Fitter £300
    Kitchen Fitter £500

    £2500 - £3000

You will save a lot by doing it yourself of course

When we moved here, we put in a new kitchen. Our budget was £1000, and we bought units, sink, worktops and built-in fridge from Ikea and an end of roll of vinyl flooring.

Not sure on renovations, but I have a small kitchen and had a completely new kitchen fitted a couple of years ago. Cost just short of 2k, which included new units, worktops, vinyl floor, tiles, sink, rewire, repaint. Plus that cost included ripping out and disposal of the old.

I'd say 3k too, we do a few per year. About £1k in materials, rest is all labor.

  • I spent about £700 renovating a kitchen. Expensive floor tiles purchased in a sale, kitchen units bought from a sale.., wasn't a small kitchen. Did all the work myself. The kitchen cupboards actually moved with me to 3 different properties.

Renovating our small kitchen for £3k including decent cabinets/doors (DIY kitchens), granite composite sink, induction hob, tiles, etc and then paying £1k for someone who did our bathroom to fit it all :)

Better than B&Q that quoted £8k!

    The Great Declutter Challenge - £876 :)

  • I am mentally putting to one side £10k for when I can afford to do mine at last. It would be £5k if this were a starter house - but I've mentally increased it because its expected-to-be a "final house" and I want decent quality enough not to have to do it again ever.

I'm assuming the house is a starter house and not a "final" one - so I'd be allowing £5k personally (without having broken down as to specific costs). One thing that frequently strikes me when a house has been "renovated for sale" and on quite a few other "starter house" kitchens is there aren't many units/much worksurface and it looks as if there is only a bare minimum number of units. Personally - I'm a keen cook and therefore part of my calculations includes having the maximum amount possible of storage space and work surface space.

I have a massive kitchen, think 16 maybe 18 CBA walking through to count em :D cabinets, 3 full 3 metre length worktops, 14 sockets and it cost less than 2k.

Of course we fitted it ourselves and bought the cabinets flat pack and assembled ourselves, its a lino floor and we bought end of roll and paid £100 for that and fitting.
So it will cost as much or as little as you like/can afford/quality you want.
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥
