Excise duties on goods sent from the EU? I thought there was supposed to be free movement of goods throughout the EU?
In theory but certain items attract excise duty when they arrive in the UK, even from the EU. Not only that, but if the goods are imported by another company (or the postal service), duty and VAT may be payable. See press release...

well ive yet to hear anyone requesting the item be returned to customs and customs payed direct.
ive suggested it a few times but the OP's who are full of bluster seem to ont have bothered.
as for VAT,that is down to customs and luck im afraid.
i ordered RAM from the states and didnt get charged however i had keyed in the charges as a worst case price before bidding0 -
oh dear
looks like i've been lucky then
i've purchased a mobile from the USA before and more recently a PSP from Japan - both were over £100 each and i wasnt charged anything more than what i paid initially (to the seller and retailer)
i think the mobile was pre-paid or something (i'm not to sure on the inner workings of postage) as it had like a form filled out and ticked and stuck onto it.0 -
What about kids clothes? Are you charged VAT on those? They are exempt in the UK.0

No, kids clothes are zero rated. You may pay duty on them though, depending what country they come from IIRC.0 -
i am trying a new tactic, the item i am waiiting for is now 6 weeks over-due, the other week RM tried to deliver it but , drat, i was out!, the sent a little note thru the door with the usual stuff about collecting in person, i have pretended that i have not seen this note to see what happens, i have now tracked my goods, they are back in the usa, and a winging their way back to the uk!:hello: lock n load....
