How does a lone parent manage to get the baby, the toddler and the buggy and the shopping into the house in one go, if they don't actually have a drive to park on, or even if they do?0

Isnt the whole petrol issue a moot point as you can pay at the pump mostly now. And also shopping can be delivered (mostly). So that risk is taken care of.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0

No I don't leave our children in the car alone, especially in petrol garages. I remember a couple of incidents where children were left in cars and they were either hit by another car or caught fire or let the hand break off. It's not fear of others getting to them they can be strapped in and child lock on, it's the fear of something happens and they can't get out.
Petrol I fill up without them in the car not only fearful of all of that but also it's an easier life!
Everyone should be free to make their own choices though, I certainly wouldn't think anything if I saw kids in a car without an adult.0 -

You have to take a leap of faith. I always grabbed the baby and toddler got them in the house into the living room with the baby gate up. Closed the front door just incase today was the day they learnt to get out of the gate. Then ran the bags to the house until all was outside the door. Opened the door and took them all inside.
To be fair I could park on our drive but found it just the same to park on the road outside our house.0 -
I didn't drive when my son was small, so the situation did not arise. I did leave him outside shops though.
I would not do it now.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
My dad regularly left me in the car alone when out shopping. He seemed concerned more about kidnapping than anything else and always locked me in. I knew not to touch the handbrake and how to open the lock if necessary.
What surprised me is the amount of people I know who leave their child in the car for extended periods if the child is asleep upon arriving home. I have family members who do this with the car parked on a very steep hill (So steep I won't even park my empty car there!).0 -

the pushchair stays in the car
the children are put in the house with the ipad, a banana and a beaker of juice..
I could then go out for a 5 hours (or as long as the battery lasts) and they'd not notice!
Usually I just have shopping delivered and they help take it to the kitchen.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

But what if they chocked on the banana/juice/ipad?:rotfl:
Life if full of 'what if's' and we all perceive dangers differently, all our children are different and we (hopefully) all judge where we feel our children will be safest, that doesn't make us worse/better parents.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
