Large letter size mailers - recomendations please

I realise this comes up every now & then, but the search is a bit rubbish on this forum, plus lots of the suggestions are for large bulk buys.

I occasionally sell clothes, so fitting stuff into a large letter size is great for saving money on postage!

I have A4 envelopes, but the large letter size is a bit bigger, so looking for something that maximises the dimensions allowed.

I probably only want to buy 20 at a time.

Maybe something like the amazon mailers (card enevelopes).

Thanks in advance.

I sell very few clothes, but when I do I always use the plastic mailers and just pack my items flat. I haven't had any issues yet with the Mail centre wanting them to go as parcels, even though they have to squish to go through the slot due to the air inside.

Those boxes that hold 100 sheets of labels, I give those empty ones to OH and she is sometimes able to get a T shirt or such like into them and they go through the slot ok.

    Good tip!
Shame I'm on mat leave, but when I go back I'll raid the stationary cupboard!

Any tips on where to get good value bags in smaller numbers?
I've been scanning ebay, but there's so much there, and they're usually on those multiple listings.

If using plastic mailing bags for clothing (especially tshirts) be careful as the clothing can bunch up and then it will go as small parcel instead of large letter. I wrap the tshirt around a thin cardboard (cut up cereal box is ideal as doesn't add much weight).

We use http://www.odlpackaging.co.uk/ for all our packaging. They are on Ebay but if you register on their website you get a code for 5% off orders under £50. You can get cheaper but we find these get the best quality for the lowest price. The lowest number they sell is 10 and 10 of size 9" x 12" which is probably closet to A4 are £1.80 with free delivery. Well £1.71 with your 5% discount.

If your selling clothes to send as large letters then you need lightweight packaging like mailbags. It can make the difference between the different large letter price bands.

    Another ODL vote here.
  • I use A4 Document Wallet Half Flap found a couple of hundred going cheap on Ebay a while ago from a private seller - the outer boxes were a bit tatty where they had been stored - great for t shirts and lightweight shirts and slip them into an A4 size plastic mail bag so they dont bunch up when going through the dreaded slot

    - also have been known to sit on them when taking them to the post office ,to squeeze the air out ( then lean on them at the counter ! )
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)
